This silver filigree hair ornament is part of a set of Indian silver filigree jewelry sent to Margaret Kellett by her father, Major Edward Young Kellett, a doctor in the Royal Army Medical Corps stationed in India. Margaret Kellett wore the jewelry at her wedding to Richard Joseph Long on November 15, 1877, in Los Angeles. The hair ornament is composed of a full floral silver filigree blossom suspended from the top of a twisted silver pin by three small chains, with three silver cone/tassels suspended by chain from the blossom. A chain decorated with small filigree ball-shaped beads falls from the other side of the pin. The chain, decorated with twelve filigree ball-shaped beads appears to end abruptly; perhaps another blossom or cone/tassel would have finished this piece.
