The spool-turned chair is from Colton Hall, the seat of government in Monterey. Ca. 1840-1860, corresponding to the last Mexican governors, perhaps contemporary of Governor Micheltorena whose desk was also a part of this gift. The chair is one of several that were present at Colton Hall in the 1950s. Donor recognized one of these chairs at an antique store in San Juan Bautista. Dealer said he had sold the rest. One of the back spindles was broken, and Mrs. Whitman has had it restored. P.C. Klieger
