An elderly African-American woman in a wheelchair is in the center foreground of the image (mid-distance, from a standing angle) with a single-story stucco house behind her, which is being worked on by two middle-age African-American men. In handwriting on the bottom front of the photo is the text in black felt pen, "Mary Melton can't work on her home anymore but neighborhood volunteers like Floyd Whitehead (c) and John McDonald (r) are helping and [sic] get Mary's home ready to be painted." Also on front bottom is the credit stamp, "Tribune Photo by," with the photographer's name handwritten, "Howard G. Ford." Also there is a date stamp, "Aug 25 1992." Also on the front is the handwritten note, in blue ballpoint pen, "Before." No text or information appears on verso.
