Five (5) butterflies in a Riker Mount which is a thin, glass-topped, cotton-filled exhibition case.   They are lined up except for the two with folded wings that are displayed side by side. Upper side is orange with black markings. Underside of hind wing has a red-orange stripe at the margin and a red-orange, white, and black checkered pattern on remainder of wing. They range in size from 3/4 x 1 1/4 to 1 1/8 x 1. the following description is from top to bottom and left to right. the first, second butterfly are male.  The third fourth and fifth butterfly are female. VERSO: A dark pink stamp that has a box with the following information inside: "Collection of Clay Ward (obstructed by a hook used to hang the mount) Inglewood-California NAME [line] on DATE [line] LOCATION [line]" In black handwritten ink on the NAME line: "Melitaca Harris" In black handwritten ink on the DATE line: "June 20, 1932 "In black handwritten ink on the LOCATION line: Jefferson, N.H." In black handwritten ink beneath the box is : "Harris' Checkerspot". Male and Female symbols are stamped below in pink that correspond to the butterflies on recto.
