Hat: Straw and Material Auto Bonnet. 1908 (IBM 2-93) Swirls of straw decorate each side of bonnet; under brim is trimmed with black velvet. The crown is covered with printed silk shantung. The ties, which were attached to the sides, are now yellow silk chiffon shreds. The lining which has come unstitched to reveal the wire and net structure of the bonnet is pale green/cream color silk. Attached to the lining is a paper tag which reads: "B.F. Schlesinger & Sons, Inc., Oakland. Written in pencil on the tag: Earln 15. This bonnet is missing its veil. You didn't choose a different bonnet for every time you went out. You usually just had one, worn to protect your hair during motoring. (Joan Severa, 3/8/1994)
