Aftershock! Voices from the 1906 Earthquake and Fire. Great Hall, April 1 - August 13, 2006.

Collection of 20th century Calif. newspapers. History: One of these is further catalogued and photographed. DC 6/76 Newspaper. Description: "The World" published in N.Y. extra edition. Key headline on front page with 35 point type reads "City wiped out!" The entire front page is devoted to the story of the S.F. earthquake and fire as are several other pages in the newspaper. Also in this newspaper are many advertisements, items of local news, sports news, editorial cartoons, and comics. Condition is very bad with considerable acid throughout the paper great brittleness and much tearing of pages. References/Remarks: Use of the nickname "Frisco" is evident in several headlines, although this was not the case in the S.F. papers of the period. Not also the rather heartless editorial cartoon on page 4 which shows major earthquake happening at Formosa and Frisco and wondering whether N.Y. will be next Disposition: S.F.Earthquake
