"69 [69 is crossed out] 64" inscribed in emulsion along top edge. "64 Carmichaels Cut Bitter Creek Valley" inscribed in emulsion along bottom edge. The "69 [69 is crossed out] 64" is faint on the transmissive image. The inscription can be seen more easily on the reflective image.

"This excavation cut was approximately 60 feet high and 100 feet long and was photographed several times. Cut through oil shale, it unexpectedly caught fire during construction and earned the name burning rock cut. The smoke of the fire can be seen in one of Andrew Russell's stereographs."
