Photograph belonged to great Aunt of donor. Martha Hunter came to Oakland in 1905 from Tucson where she was teaching to Indians at a Presbyterian mission school. She entered Fabiola to train for the nursing profession. After graduating as a R.N. she lived and practiced her profession in San Jose until her death in the late 1930's. Inscription in blue ink on back of mount identifies Fabiola Hospital and that Martha Hunter graduated about 1908 0r 1909. (4/2002, G. Weininger, from DeWitt Jones, Oakland Parks and Playgrounds, 1935): The Mosswood Park estate was purchased by Oakland for $72,000 in 1912 as the result of efforts of Mayor Frank Mott. The park is now the site of the Vagabond Theatre, a large truck with a well-equipped stage, which moves around among California towns.
