Grimwades, Stoke on Trent, England

The cups and saucers in this collection come from Della's Tea Cup Cafe, 7309 MacArthur Boulevard, Oakland, which was established in February, 1967. The cafe is noted for, and decorated with, a very large collection of tea cups. Some of the cups were purchased by the owner, others were presented to her as gifts, while still others were made for her. A: Cup, white interior with two metallic gold bands at rim, tan exterior decorated with decals of coaching scenes. Decal on front shows coach with broken wheel, on the back all is well, and the coach is moving. Small brown line decorates handle. Title on the bottom: "Old English Coaching Scenes". Both cup and saucer have manfacturer's mark: "Grimwade, Stoke on Trent, England." B: Saucer, matches cup in color, and has three decals, two of coaches being drawn by horses, and the scene at the top of the saucer is a "quaint" cityscape showing people waving at the coach. Two bands of metallic gold go around the rim.
