The inscription on the back of the photo reads "Oakland's 2nd Telegraph office." Two women are seated on high back raised chairs and two more are on regualr height chairs at separate switchboards in a corner of the telegraph office. Two other women are standing, one of whom appears to be the supervisor. The walls of the office are covered by banks of name plates and what appear to be [but are not JM 9/19/2000] tall volumes of books.
