There is not much of a guide to the location or period of the large four-storey house on top of a hillside. The notation on the back of the photo reads "'Borax' Smith Collection," but whether the house shown is Smith's house or not is not given. The only other clues might be the tower at center with an exterior sprial staircase, and a paved road curving across the picture. On the near side fo the road, there is nothing but an empty, sloping grass landscape.
