Tribune caption on the back, Feb. 17, 1955, "A new $2,414,000 section of the Eastshore [crossed out with Nimitz written above] Freeway, to extend from Fifth and Market Streets to 11th and Cypress Streets, is taking shape through West Oakalnd. Shown in the above photo is, lower center, an earth embankment which starts at Market St., outside the picture, leading to a structure that spans Adeline St. and curves to Cypress St. Now being planned is a continuation of the elevated structure on Cypress St. to the Bay Bridge." Photos is an aerial view of the area surrounding the new freeway . The freeway itself is not built yet but the path has been cleared with the beginning of the construction visible.
