Smiling California Secretary of State March Fong Eu beside display of the Constitution of 1849. Posed photo. Caption on top of photo reads: "BOP101301-10/13/82-SACRAMENTO:Sect.of State March Fong Eu displays the original copy of California's constitution on display for the first time in 20 years in the Capitol (10/13) to mark the 133rd anniversary of its signing on Oct. 13, 1849 in Monterey. UPI srg/Steve Grove." Secretary of State Eu is on left side of photo smiling. Her dark hair is worn in a bouffant style and flips up on her right side. She is wearing a dark long sleeve coat. Her long sleeve blouse is of a shiny light colored fabric with symetrical dark dots. On her right hand she wears a ring of dark pearls/beads. Her right arm is bent at the elbow and it appears she is wiping the glass of the display case with a dark cloth. Behind her is at least one man (with white hair and glasses) and a picture hanging on a wall. In front of her is a display case of a patterned wood visible at the top and bottom of the case. Just below the top wood portion of the case is a dark area with what appears to be an "H" in the middle. Next is the name plate "THE CONSTITUTION OF 1849". Below the name plate and on its left is one page of the document; it contains text. Mrs. Fong is "wiping" area of the display. The second page, appearing to contain signatures, is to the right of the first page. Each is mounted and "framed" in black and under a clear covering (glass or plexiglass?). Between and below the two pages is a card that may describe and/or comment on the document. On the right side of the photo are pages of a binder or book.
