This black and white glossy photograph has a small white border. The image shows Walter Haneberg, a soldier wounded during World War II, in bed in Letterman Gnereal Hospital, on the Presidio in San Francisco. His bed has a superstructure to accommodate the traction pulleys on is leg. He's looking at the camera, over a cart rolled in front of his bed. On the cart is a "snow scene" of Santa Claus and his reindeer, with a small, decorated Christmas tree. Standing next to his bed is a much largerer Christmas tree, with very few ornaments or other decorations on it.

It is while he was a patient at Letterman Hospital that Red Cross worker,Margaret Russell, met Walter Haneberg, her husband-to-be.
