Two copies of this flier are being accessioned, with additional copies kept in the donor file. This is a vertical sheet of 8.5'' x 11'' paper with eight small pictures showing people standing with the flags and barrels in the desert, tending to the barrels, and a cross probably meant to signify the death of an immigrant who was crossing the border in the desert. The flier contains the following text: Water Station PO Box 186 Poway, CA 92074 www.desertwater.org Founded in 2000. Water Station deploys and maintains water stations in the Southern California desert. Our goal is to prevent people from dying from heat and dehydration. We are a 501c3 Non Profit, all volunteer organization. You may have seen our characteristic blue and orange flags along Highway 98 or other parts of the desert. Water Station does not have any political or religious affiliation and does not encourage illegal immigration. We have all BLM land use permits to operate and also maintain very good relations with the Border Patrol and the Park rangers. 2009 is our 10th year of work and we have typically installed 200 water stations every year. Our water stations are installed annually late March, and removed at the end of October. Our runs to the desert happen every other weekend. Volunteers come from all walks of life and we accept anyone if they have the simple conviction to help those who might otherwwise die without water. We had hundreds of volunteers through the years. Currently we have around 7 very dedicated, faithful and passionate volunteers that provide the hard work to save a life. Water Station survives with the work of our volunteers, and the support of kind contributions from people that know of our work. You can make a donation online, or write your check or money order to Water Station. Your donations are tax deductible. If you have any questions please feel free to call or email.
