Four (4) butterflies in a Riker Mount which is a thin, glass-topped, cotton-filled exhibition case.  Upperside of male forewing has black checkered pattern on outer half. Female is more heavily patterned, but markings are more brown and diffuse. Hindwing of both male and female white. Underside of male hindwing with pale checkered pattern. Underside of female with yellow-tan markings on hindwing and tip of forewing. They range in size from 1 1/4 x 1 3/16 to 1 1/4 x 1 3/4. The two butterflies in the middle have their wings folded.  The one on the left is female and on the right is male.  The top butterfly is female and the bottom male. A dark pink stamp that has a box with the following information inside: "Collection of Clay Ward (obstructed by a hook used to hang the mount) Inglewood-California NAME [line] on DATE [line] LOCATION [line]" In black handwritten ink on the NAME line: "Pieris Protodice" In black handwritten ink on the DATE line: "May 16, 1929" In black handwritten ink on the LOCATION line:"Chino, Calif" Below in handwritten black ink is: "Common White". Male and Female symbols are stamped below in pink that correspond to the butterflies on recto.
