Beads, one lot. Mr. Spencer was principal of Cole Grammar School, Oakland. Accessioned 10/18/48 "41 strips of beads numbered 16.4502a-oo." (vv, 8/91) "Looks like these beads were all excavated from a burial, cry (i.e. annual mouring ceremony site where quantities of things were burned) or cremation site. The beads all appear to be mid 19th century Italian beads: white opaque glass paste; both white and dark green centered red variants of the cornaline d'allepo, faceted blue glass beads (erroneously termed "Russian" - these are commonly found at mid 19th century Sierra Miwok and Maidu sites) and a few misc. black, amythest and turquoise blue beads." (Craig Bates, 7/91)
