Poster. Description: "Don't Envy Beatniks - Be One! ... Trader Henri's do-it-yourself Beatnik Kit ...". Handlettered red and black marker pen on white poster board. Two amendments have been made by pasting on lettered cardboard corrections; the "P.S. ..." amendment at the bottom of the poster is in red and white ink on black board. Poster board much discolored and rather soiled. Corners and edges bumped, tack holes at top corners. Condition 3. Dimensions: 23" x 17-3/4". From the History Information Station: Object: "Don't envy Beatniks, be one!" History: This "advertisement" for a Beatnik kit pokes fun at the fashion pretensions of so-called independent thinkers. It was made by Henri Lenoir, self-proclaimed "curator of North Beach," and was displayed at Vesuvio's bar, a popular bohemian hangout.
