Tribune caption on the back, Oct. 7, 1947-- "James Joyce (right), employee of Kahn's for 42 years, cuts the ribbon which opens the stoe's new escalators. Awaiting the first ride are Ada Grimes, 34 years with the store, and her 'escort,' John J. Reilly, president, and Marie Barrett, with Kahn's 29 years, escorted by Fred McGrew, vice-president. Long-time workers initiated the new service." Photo shows a man holding a pair of scissors and cutting a ribbon stretched over the opening of the escalator. Standing behind him are the two women with their "escorts" waiting for the ride. In the background is a crowd of people.
